The lab

Our group brings together engineering and astronomy in WVU's Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. We are also part of the Center for Gravitational Waves and Cosmology. Alumni helped build many of our current systems.

Dr. Bandura builds analog front ends, FPGA correlators, and timing systems for wide-field radio telescopes. These systems let instruments such as CHIME survey the entire overhead sky at once. The science includes 21 cm intensity mapping, which traces neutral hydrogen to measure accelerated cosmic expansion. Outrigger stations precisely locate fast radio bursts, allowing researchers to identify their host galaxies.
